UGA International Street Festival

April 8th, 2017, Downtown Athens

This year Athens is celebrating its 19th annual UGA International Street Festival, bringing all-embracing bands, decadent costumes and dances and cultural displays to the busy streets of Athens. Numerous UGA international student organizations, community groups and locals sponsor the interactive and enlightening cultural displays and musical and dance performances. This event is the perfect way to immerse yourself in diverse cultures while you enjoy the spring weather and inviting downtown scene.

Visitors have the opportunity to collect “passport” stamps from each of the countries represented at the festival. Those who collect all of the available stamps receive a ticket for a prize drawing – what a great way to get your children moving, having fun and learning all at the same time.

Classic City Brew Fest

April 9th, 2017, The Foundry

This one is for all of you beer connoisseurs; this unique event allows you to enjoy great tours of Terrapin Beer Company, special tappings and tastings at Trappeze, Chops & Hops, Catch 22, and The Pine and Copper Creek brewpub during Athens Craft Beer Week. The week long festivities culminate on Sunday with the Classic City Brew Fest.

Athens’ 22nd annual Classic City Brew Fest offers widespread sampling including options of 400 world-class craft beers from around the world, live music sure to get you grooving, and a spacious Cask Ale Pavilion. This event has been known as one of the Southeast’s most enjoyable craft beer celebrations and was voted one of the USA’s top 10 Beer Festivals on BeerInfo.com.

The best part about it all – the Classic City Brew Fest benefits the Athens-Area Humane Society, so not only will you be enjoying some tasty brews but you’ll be helping animals in need.

Indie South’s Springtacular

April 22nd-23rd 2017, Downtown Athens

Indie South Fair is a traveling market that brings together artists, creative entrepreneurs and designers to showcase their work in a festive atmosphere and just so happen to be making a pit stop in Athens! The event will include music, kids craft activities, artisanal food and drink, and family fun entertainment.

Indie South fosters growing small businesses and their community of supporters; they believe that face to face interaction between makers and their advocates is the key to doing great business. We love this message and know this event will be a can’t-miss in Athens this spring.

Twilight Criterium

April 28th – April 30th, 2017, Downtown Athens

The 38th annual Twilight Criterium will take place throughout the downtown streets of Athens, creating flocks of fan, families and racers alike. This breathtaking, exceptional downtown bicycle race provides attendants with numerous can’t-miss activities in addition to the actual race. Twilight Criterium is a favorite spot on the national cycling tour circuit, both for its unique evening setup and the large crowds that gather in Athens’ vibrant downtown areas.

Founded in 1980, Athens’ Twilight Criterium was the first nighttime race in the United States in over 60 years. It began as one race with 40 competitors and has since grown to several events and 150 competing cyclists.
Athens is known for both scenery and greenery, and at the first signs of spring, we love to head outdoors. Pay homage to this beautiful city at any of these can’t-miss happenings and you might just see a familiar face or two. If you attend any of these events we’d love to hear about your experience by using the hashtag #MSREAthens
