Prepare Your Kitchen for the Season of Fall

The fall and winter months are some of the most popular times of the year for utilizing your kitchen, especially with the holidays around the corner. Get your kitchen ready for cooler weather by giving it a deep-clean. Take some time to clean your oven and small kitchen appliances. By cleaning ahead of time, you won’t have to worry about it when weekend football tailgates or fall parties come up.

It’s also a great time to move out with the old and in with the new. Go through your refrigerator and check the expiration dates on foods and condiments that are old. After you clean out your fridge, you’ll be able to more easily clean it. Go ahead and do a deep clean of your kitchen counters, tiling and back walls as well. Once peak cooking and baking season comes around, your kitchen will already be in excellent shape.

Clean and Repair Your Home’s Exterior

Consider looking around your home for areas that need repair as the weather begins to cool. Gutters most often get clogged in the fall, potentially leading to water damage to your roof or siding. Make sure that your gutters and downspouts are in good shape for the upcoming months and clean them out of any build up. If you spot any additional areas on your home that need repair, such as the siding, foundation or roof, now is a great time to schedule a day to make these repairs.

Take Care of Your Yard

The end of summer and beginning of fall is an important period of transition for your yard and plants. Make sure you take time to winterize your plants and your home before the winter months roll around.

If you have lots of trees around your home, consider hiring a company who can properly prune your trees to avoid large, broken limbs. As trees and shrubs begin to go dormant in the fall, be sure to keep your yard clean before the leaves in your yard pile out of control.

Keep Critters Out

As the temperature gets colder and harsher, small animals and bugs will be searching for additional sources of warmth. This makes your home the perfect target for all sorts of different critters. Check your home to see if there are any small holes or gaps where critters can enter your home, especially in areas where food is kept like the pantry. If you spot any holes around your home, fill them with heavy-duty cloth or caulking.

Give Your Interior a Check-Up

It’s always a good idea to check the safety devices around your home! Give your home a check-up by testing the smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors and replace the batteries as needed.

Dryer vents can also be a dangerous hazard as the weather cools, especially if there is a build-up of lint. Keep your dryer running efficiently and avoid an electric fire by cleaning out your home’s dryer vent. Schedule a time for heating system maintenance in order to keep your home running as efficiently as possible during the cooler months.

Check these home projects off the list and your home will be in excellent shape come fall!
