New Year Resolutions for You and Your Home

2019 is here and new year resolutions are on everyone’s minds. Maybe you want to spend more time with your family or add more vegetables to your diet. The new year is also a perfect opportunity to set goals for your home. Whether you want to finish the deck, save money on energy bills or keep your home in tip-top shape, here are 5 resolution ideas for you and your home for the new year.

1. Tackle That Project

Is that unfinished fire pit in the backyard on your mind? How about that tree bench you want to build? Make a resolution this year to take on that project that you want to finish. Schedule a weekend and get it done! The feeling of accomplishment once it’s finished will be well worth it.

2. Cut Your Costs

There’s no harm in saving some cash, so make 2019 all about lowering your home bills. Be thoughtful about your electricity use. Turn off lights, unplug electronics that aren’t in use and and switch to energy efficient light bulbs. Program your thermostat based on the season. To lower that water bill, evaluate which faucets and drains may be in need of a tune-up.

3. Clean It Out

It’s time to clean out that room you’ve been avoiding. Whether it’s your garage, attic, basement or another room – we get it. You’ve been meaning to but just haven’t gotten around to it yet. 2019 is the year to jump on it and get organized. It’s time to clean up the clutter! Think about how much more utility you’ll be able to add to the space.

4. Get What You Really Want

Is there something special on your list? Did you really want a memory foam mattress but settle for a less expensive option. The alternative you bought is ok, but you still crave that Tempur-Pedic comfort. Stop longing for what you really want and settling for a subpar substitute. Budget and save for the real deal in the new year.

5. Integrate a New Design Concept

The new year is a time for new beginnings. What better way to start the year off than by trying something new in your home? The new year always comes with new interior design trends so be bold and make 2019 the year to try one or two of them out. Check out our blog post on what we predict to be 2019’s top decor trends.

Home is where the heart is, so make sure to keep your home in mind when making your new year resolutions. Happy New Year!
