In Good Company: Katelyn Fletcher
Katelyn Fletcher has recently joined Mark Spain Real Estate as our Associate Director of Sales in Raleigh! Her extensive background in real estate and values make her a welcome addition to our growing family. We are thrilled to highlight Katelyn and her talents!
Tell us about you, Katelyn Fletcher! Where you were born, where did you grow up, what do you enjoy in your free time?
I grew up in Erie, PA. I graduated from Penn State University with a Bachelors Degree in Communications. In 2010, I moved to Raleigh, NC. Outdoor activities are my favorite: running, biking, hiking, fishing, snorkeling, and kayaking. I also love to travel! My favorite place I have traveled to so far is Isla Muejeres in Mexico. Not only that, I love spending time with my family, my husband, and my dog, Harbour.
When and how did you become a part of MSRE?
I joined Mark Spain Real Estate in November of 2019! Before, I was working for a real estate investment firm, where I was a Senior Director and Partner. My main focus was developing a team to re-engineer our apartment communities and re-sell them in 24 months. I loved my time there, but I wanted more growth and to learn something new through more exposure.
However, I still wanted to be able to focus on my passion which is developing a team and driving results. Getting to know Cindy and Tom really sealed the deal for me. They spent a ton of time with me and got to know me on a personal and business level which meant so much to me. They are both amazing leaders and I knew I wanted to work with them.
How long have you been involved in real estate and where?
My real estate career began five and a half years ago at the Connor Group- Real Estate Investment Firm. I started as a profit center manager and worked my way up to Senior Director and Partner. During my time there, I trained new managers, sales associates, mentored new managers, developed new training materials for the company, and successfully sold 3 properties after re-engineering them in less than 24 months!
Why Mark Spain Real Estate?
It’s a growing team, with an amazing mission and vision! I am all about culture. Culture was a HUGE factor for me in my decision to join MSRE. The values are absolutely in line with what I believe in my personal and professional life. ‘Have an Attitude of Excellence’ and ‘Constantly Grow and Improve’ really hit close to home for me. I also wanted to join an organization that would provide me with the exposure to make an impact and help others grow their business.
What is your favorite part about the people you work with?
Everyone has been extremely warm and welcoming! I have only been here a week, but I have especially enjoyed my time with Kate so far. I can already tell she is going to be an amazing mentor for me, and she is such a genuine person. The agents in the Raleigh office are fantastic, and I appreciate that they all have been answering my questions with a smile.
I am really looking forward to spending more time with all of them and learning from them! Of course- I love how involved Tom and Cindy are. They are so in-tune with the business and always there to coach and provide feedback.
Tell me about the friendships you’ve made at MSRE.
Well, I just started but I enjoyed spending time with Sara and Austin today. Sara was extremely inspiring when I shadowed her in her huddle this morning. She had the perfect balance between accountability and motivation. Her team is so bought into her, and you can just feel how much she values her team. I also enjoyed getting to know Austin.
It was really cool to get to know him since he grew up in North Carolina and has really grown in his role at MSRE. He is very down to earth and helpful. However, he is a UNC Tarheels fan, and I am a Duke Fan- but I won’t hold that against him for now! Haha. Mikaela and Nick have both been extremely helpful and welcoming so far. Mikaela is a Penn State fan and that is where I went to college, so I like her a lot already!
What have you learned the most from working at MSRE?
I’ve learned to be grateful for everyone and everything around you. I learned this in my training with Tom. It’s really easy to be so focused on emotions and getting answers quickly because you are in a bind, that you forget to be grateful for the team around you who makes it all possible. In the past, I have spent too much time only showing gratitude when someone does something to help me. I want to make sure I am leading by example and showing gratitude by creating relationships with everyone around me. I am absolutely committed to making sure I live and breathe the culture- everyone is my client and they come first.
What are your passions in life outside of work?
Traveling, outdoor activities, volunteering with local animal shelters, and spending time with my family. I am all about family! Oh and renovating my house with my husband. That’s a huge project that has been ongoing for 3 years! (It was built in the 1970s and was never renovated. When we bought it, it had the original avocado countertops and all.)
What is a hidden talent that you have?
My memory is a steel trap! When I managed an apartment community a few years ago, it had 298 units. After about 6 months of being there, I could tell you every resident’s name who lived there, which apartment number they lived in, and some fun fact about them.
Who inspires you in life?
My mom- she is the kindest, most genuine, and smartest person I know. She can find simple joy in absolutely anything she does and is always happy. She was an extremely successful business woman (she just retired 3 years ago) and she always put her clients first. Plus, she also runs 4 miles with me every Saturday and Sunday, which is pretty inspiring since she is 61 years old! She is always up for anything- she will go anywhere and do anything with me!
What are you looking forward to this year?
Learning from every single person I encounter in this organization. And I am looking forward to growing and contributing to the Mark Spain Real Estate success!
