The month of May is recognized as Mental Health Awareness Month in the United States, emphasizing living healthy, fulfilling, and connected lives. In an effort to promote greater well-being, we want to share some personal health and growth tips that we have encouraged our team to embrace this month!

Four Practices for Personal Growth and Healthiness
1. Take Care of Your Body
One of the most efficient ways to promote personal wellness and self-care is to take care of your body. Taking care of our bodies improves how we feel, increases our energy levels, and kickstarts our drive to promote an efficient daily life. We can take care of our bodies by eating nutritious and balanced meals, drinking enough water to stay hydrated, exercising, and sleeping the right amount. Health.com recommends 30 minutes of light exercise 5 days a week, as well as 7-9 hours of sleep per night in order to maintain the peak condition of our bodies. When you take care of your body, it will take care of you!
2. Pick up a New Hobby
Picking up a new hobby maximizes your potential to broaden your horizons, explore something you’ve always been interested in, and stimulate yourself intellectually and/or socially. Change up your everyday routine with something new and exciting to break up the monotony of daily life, sparking newfound joy and motivation in all areas of life. A few hobbies we think are worth exploring include: reading a book genre you may find challenging, learning meditation, volunteering with an organization that inspires you, or trying out a new form of exercise.
3. Practice Gratitude
One way to practice gratitude is by journaling. A simple way to start gratitude journaling is to write down 3 things you are thankful for each day. This takes less than 5 minutes, but it can completely alter your view on the day. When times get tough, you are able to be reminded of all the positive things in your life by rereading your gratitude lists. Practicing gratitude has many health benefits, including increased optimism and life satisfaction, improved mood, decreased burnout, and strengthened relationships. Gratitude is strongly associated with greater happiness, which is associated with greater overall health!
4. Set Goals
Setting realistic goals helps us to not only realize our goals but to feel accomplished and worthy as we work towards them. Setting and then prioritizing realistic goals allows us to focus on things we value and to set boundaries to avoid taking on too much. Goals should be SMART: specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound. Setting SMART goals is valuable because we gain short-term vision and long-term motivation, leading to more efficient and sustainable efforts.
