Sofia Maldonado started with the Mark Spain Real Estate team early this year while still in college, and did a fantastic job as a marketing intern. As she neared graduation from the University of Georgia, she and our team both knew she was capable of more. We are so excited Sofia has moved into our Marketing Assistant role, she has earned this position and we cannot wait to see her thrive!

Tell us about you, Sofia Maldonado! Where were you born, and what do you enjoy in your free time?
I was born in Greenville, North Carolina, and moved to Statesboro, Georgia in 8th grade. Although I love Statesboro and its small-town charm, I was excited to attend college away from home at The University of Georgia! Go dawgs!
In my free time, I enjoy jamming out to reggaeton music, spending time with my family, traveling, and exploring the city! I am also a big fan of learning and trying out new things. This past December, I decided to try snowboarding despite having only skied before! To be honest, I spent more time falling than anything, but as my boyfriend, Stephen, who has years of snowboarding experience put it, “it builds character.”
When and how did you become a part of Mark Spain Real Estate?
Senior year of college, my friend Hannah reached out and asked if I would be interested in pursuing a marketing role! Of course, I said yes! I began interviewing with Kaitlin and Alisha, and instantly knew that this was where I needed to be. I was persistent and didn’t let anything get in the way of me joining the team! 
How long have you been involved in real estate and where?
Before joining Mark Spain Real Estate as a Marketing Intern in January, I had not been involved in real estate. However, it was an industry that always sparked my interest. I loved playing house hunter for my parents when we made the move from North Carolina to Georgia. Now that I have been with MSRE for a little over 6 months, my knowledge of the industry has vastly expanded. Getting to see the behind-the-scenes of the selling and buying process has only made my interest in the industry grow!
Why Mark Spain Real Estate?
Growing up, I knew I wanted to work somewhere that provided me with countless growth opportunities, and working at Mark Spain Real Estate has proven to be the perfect place for me. From my very first interview to beginning my internship, to now as I take on the Marketing Assistant role, I have been inspired by multiple leaders to chase after growth and to push myself out of my comfort zone. Mark Spain Real Estate’s team is composed of hard-working leaders, and I am so grateful for their guidance.
What have you learned the most from working at Mark Spain Real Estate?
I have learned far more than I could have ever imagined. Not only have I gained an extensive amount of marketing knowledge and experience, but I have gained a deeper understanding of my strengths and weaknesses.
One of my first assignments during my internship was to watch Brené Brown’s Netflix special, The Call to Courage. Brené focuses on the power of vulnerability, and the importance of putting yourself out into the arena. I have learned to take risks and put myself out there more, which has been a helpful tool not only in my professional life but in my personal life as well! I am now reading her book, Dare to Lead.
What are your passions in life outside of work?
I have been really into interior design lately. Moving into an unfurnished apartment has presented a blank canvas for me to transform it into a space that is functional and just my style! I still have a long way to go, but I’m hoping to have my place looking like my Pinterest board soon!
Who inspires you in life?
My parents are my biggest inspiration. They moved from Argentina to earn their PhDs at Virginia Tech! Everything they have done in their lives has been completely selfless. They have always put my sister and I first, and they have truly done everything in their power to provide us with the best life possible!
I am grateful for all of their hard work. It certainly has paid off, as they have both been recently promoted to Full Professors at Georgia Southern, and my mom was additionally promoted to Chair of the Foreign Language Department! It has been a big year for the Maldonados.
Tell us about the friendships you’ve made at Mark Spain Real Estate.
Since joining the team in January, I have made several friends! Everyone always comes into work with an attitude of excellence. Acts of service are my love language, and I have been offered by several teammates to be brought lunch, coffee, etc. It really feels like a family here! We all work really well together, share plenty of laughs, and help each other out.
What are you looking forward to this year?
I am looking forward to settling into my new apartment, and going to several sporting events and concerts! My family is really into soccer, and I definitely want to check out an Atlanta United game!
