Our CEO, Mark Spain, was recently awarded Fundraiser of the Year by the YMCA of Metro Atlanta! Since 2006, Mark has been a very involved member of the Forsyth County Family YMCA. He and his family became charter members when the facility opened.
One of Mark Spain Real Estate’s company values is to lead with a servant’s heart. An important aspect of this is giving back to our local communities. The Mark Spain Foundation serves its communities to make a difference in the lives of community members. Throughout the years, desire to serve our community has only increased. We look forward to furthering our involvement with our communities in all areas we serve!
“I have been involved with the Y since my childhood when I took swim lessons at the South DeKalb YMCA.” explains Mark Spain. He recalls the experience at the South DeKalb YMCA had a great impact on his childhood. “As a father, it is important to me that our children also be involved in an organization that matches our family’s value system.”
For the last 5 years Mark has served on the Forsyth County Family YMCA board. He chaired its 2014 inaugural YMCA Spin-A-Thon and now sponsors the annual fundraiser. This fundraiser raises tens of thousands of dollars annually to help provide children access to camps and programs regardless of their financial circumstances. He was honored as Volunteer of the Year in 2015.
Because of his continuous support of the Forsyth County Family YMCA, it was inevitable that his company would play a big part in giving back to our community. Once a year, our firm closes for the day to host Big Y Day. All Mark Spain Real Estate team members show up to clean and prep the Y’s camp so it is ready to welcome children each summer. This led to Mark Spain Real Estate being awarded Volunteer of the Year in 2018.
“My experience with the YMCA has been incredible as well as eye-opening,” says Mark Spain. “I had no idea one in five members in my local community was on some form of scholarship or financial assistance. It was a call to action for me personally to make a difference and have a positive impact.”
The Y’s annual Spin-A-Thon is a time to give back and raise money to send children to camp. The goal for the Forsyth County Family YMCA Spin-A-Thon this year is to fundraise more than $60,000, with Mark Spain personally committing to raise over $30,000. This year will be our 5th year sponsoring the event. Serving the children of the community a big passion of many members of Mark Spain Real Estate. We are thrilled to be making a big impact on our community!
