Top 10 Things to Look for When Finding a Realtor

By Mark Spain Real Estate

Finding a Realtor that matches your wants and needs is key to selling your home. We are entering the peak season for real estate and if you are interested in selling your home, the time is now. It is important to note that finding a Realtor who is right for you is crucial to hitting your home selling or buying goals.

To help, we’ve put together a list of our top 10 things to look for when finding a Realtor that will help you find the right person to work with and get to the closing table:

1. Ensure Your Agent is Licensed

For starters, let’s state the obvious: make sure your agent is qualified. If you’re going to hire someone to help you find your dream home, make sure they are qualified and able to turn that dream into a reality.

2. Make Sure Your Agent Works Full-Time

As a client, you should always be your agent’s first priority. When looking for a Realtor, make sure they are willing to give you the time necessary to get to the closing table. You want a Realtor who will be available and knowledgeable when you need them. A part-time agent will not be able to do that for you.

3. When Finding a Realtor, Check to See if Your Agent Has Great Reviews

Recommendations and word of mouth are so representative of a person’s character and ability to get the job done. Online reviews are a great place to look for that information. Reviews are available on Facebook, Zillow, Realtor.com, Google, and several other reputable sites. What better to see what your agent is capable of than through a credible source?

4. Find an Agent Who Specializes In Your Price Range

Take extra time in the interview process to find an agent who specializes in your price range. The extra time you spend on the front end is sure to help you on the back end when the agent you find who does specialize in your price range sells your house faster and for more money!

5. Search for an Agent Who Knows the Surrounding Area

Find an agent who knows the area and is knowledgeable about what part of town you are in. Atlanta has so many different pockets and suburbs that each possess their own unique traits, so it is important to have an agent knowledgeable on how to market those characteristics.

6. Look for an Agent Who is Knowledgeable About the Market

Knowledge is power and Realtors who are more knowledgeable about the real estate market are able to better serve the needs of their clients. The real estate market is an ever-changing industry, and to be successful in this field, one must stay updated on the changes occurring.

7. Finding a Realtor that Matches Your Needs and Personality

This is the person you are going to be spending a significant amount of your time with the next few months. You are going to e-mail, text, call and meet frequently. It is optimal to find an agent that matches your needs and personality.

8. Ensure Your Agent is a Good Communicator

Good communication is key to securing the home of your dreams and accepting offers in a timely manner. Ensure your Realtor is quick to respond as it will save you a heartache later! Remember, communication is a 2-way street too; make sure to ask questions and let your Realtor know how you are feeling about the process every step of the way.

9. Make Sure You Are Finding A Realtor Who Is Trustworthy

It is vital that you find an agent you can grow to know, like, and most importantly, trust. You are entrusting this person with one of the biggest purchases in your life and should feel comfortable communicating and working with this person through all parts of the process.

10. Ask Yourself “Is this an overall good fit?”

The final thing it comes down to is: do you feel good about it? Do you feel like you can work with this person, and they are the ticket to helping you meet your home buying or selling goals?

If so, congratulations! Follow these 10 things to look for when finding a Realtor, and you are well on your way to a smooth and (hopefully) low-stress process!
