Tell us about you! Where you were born, where did you grow up, what do you enjoy in your free time?
I am a North Carolina native and grew up in the Huntersville/Lake Norman area, which is where I still live today. My favorite thing to do is watch my son play sports. I also enjoy working in the yard, going to car shows, as well as feeding the hummingbirds in my backyard
How long have you been involved in real estate?
I started in the real estate industry as an agent‘s assistant in 1995. I didn’t know at the time how beneficial that was going to be. She taught me the real life experience of real estate, not just what you learn in class. I took real estate classes at night and received my license later that year. I’ll celebrate 25 years in December!
How did you become a part of Mark Spain Real Estate?
It is kind of funny what encouraged me to reach out to Mark Spain Real Estate. The ads were everywhere and I kept wondering “who is this guy and where did he come from?” I was probably a little jealous! I thought he would fade away, but he never did! So I decided I really wanted to see what the company was all about and how they were doing so much business. Rachel and I had only met a few times and I already began to feel like I was a part of the team before I was even hired. I was sold on the advertising, the leads, the training, and most importantly the agents in the office that welcomed me with open arms before I even started.
Why Mark Spain Real Estate?
I have been in real estate for 24 years and have done well, but I never reached the pinnacle of success I wanted. I’ve always been very driven, but I did not have the resources I needed and I felt like I was behind the curve on technology. It felt like Mark Spain Real Estate could set me up for success, and I was curious to see where I could go with a fresh start, advanced training, and a support team behind me.
What is your favorite part about the people you work with?
Everyone is so friendly and fun to be around. They genuinely care about you as a person and are so willing to share their time and ideas with you, and they really want to see each other succeed. It’s nice to be around people going through the same things you are to celebrate your wins or pick you up when you are having a hard time. Plus, we just have fun! I have to make myself focus when we are together or I would talk to them all day.
What have you learned the most from working at Mark Spain Real Estate?
Some important things I have learned from working at Mark Spain Real Estate are to be curious, try new things, and embrace learning. It is easy to get complacent, so you have to push yourself and take advantage of the training, podcasts and huddles. I love that they make you get out of your comfort zone and push you to do more than you think you can do.
What are your passions in life outside of work?
My greatest passion in life is to travel! I enjoy going to new places, learning the history and seeing the architecture. My favorite part of traveling is watching my son learn about new things and hearing his thoughts on new places. My favorite traveling activity is touring historic homes!
What is a hidden talent that you have?
Although time doesn’t really allow it now, I used to decorate elaborate themed cakes, mostly for my son’s birthdays.
Who inspires you in life?
My grandfather was one of my biggest inspirations. He was a true gentleman, kind to everyone he met, humble, never had a harsh word to say and would help anyone at any time. He inspired me to work hard, be kind and take a minute out of each day to help someone.
Tell us about the friendships you’ve made at MSRE.
I love my team! Rachel is so patient with me. I can be a handful and she puts up with me! Suzi, Koji and Derek were instrumental in getting me started at Mark Spain Real Estate. They took time to show me the ropes and I know I can call anytime I need them. Ben and Ivory started at the same time with me, so we trained together and leaned on each other. Donnie and I have a lot in common, so we work well together and he is always there to give me a laugh when I need it. Everyone in my office makes me so happy! I always try to take time to help the new agents that are coming in because I enjoy watching them learn and grow.
What are you looking forward to this year?
I’m most looking forward to carving out time to travel and take more control over my schedule so I can be more efficient. I’m having a great year and more importantly, I’m having fun!
