Tell us about you, Maria! Where were you born, what do you enjoy in your free time?

I come from a military family, so I moved around a lot growing up! I was born in Greenville, South Carolina but lived in West Virginia, Virginia, Mexico, Peru and Florida was our last spot! I got my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at the University of West Florida.  In my free time I enjoy spending my time with beautiful Husky, friends and family preferably on or near the water!

When and how did you become a part of Mark Spain Real Estate? 

My path crossed with Matt Weeks, who works in Georgia, when I was living in the Panhandle. He is from the Panhandle and was always communicating with me and encouraging me to join the team. We stayed connected and when he told me that there was an office coming to Tampa I knew it was meant to be! 

How long have you been involved in real estate and where?

I have been involved with real estate for almost 4 years now. My high school encouraged internships during your senior year and I interned with a local realtor, Roy Sutton. Roy is very well known and taught me so much. While in college, I needed to do an internship and I interned again with Roy Sutton. After interning with him for a year and a half I got my Real Estate license while I was in college at the University of West Florida. I served the Panhandle area before moving to Miami for a bit, then decided to move to Tampa!

Why Mark Spain Real Estate?

I chose Mark Spain Real Estate because of the company culture. I’ve always been involved with teams and I love that Mark Spain Real Estate is like a big team, everyone is there for each other. The company culture is what drew me in initially and when I started talking to the team I really got excited about working for Mark Spain Real Estate because of the team aspect and the constant encouragement. Everyone at Mark Spain Real Estate has been so kind and encouraging to work with.

What have you learned the most from working at Mark Spain Real Estate?

This is a tough question because in the 8 weeks I have been with Mark Spain Real Estate I have learned so much! When I joined they joked about it feeling like “drinking from a firehose” which it can feel like at times but the support we have is amazing!  It is a fast-paced environment, so learning time management has been crucial. I have also learned the importance of continuing education, growing and adapting to change. 

What are your passions in life outside of work?

I love spending time with my Husky, Koda who enjoys going on walks and being out in public. I also love to travel and experience different cultures. My favorite places to visit are typically close to bodies of water, where you can find me playing beach volleyball or jet skiing!

Who inspires you in life?

My parents are my biggest inspirations. They both have worked so hard to provide for my siblings and I. What I really admire about them is their ability to adapt to changes, with my Father being in the military we moved around frequently and they made it seem so easy growing up. After many changes and moving around myself, I realize it is not as easy as they made it seem!

They are small business entrepreneurs, so I got to see them create a business from the ground up. Through all adversity I rarely saw them back down, they taught me to persevere and to look at the positives in everything. With their guidance and support they inspired me to take a leap of faith with Real Estate and to follow my dreams (as cheesy as it sounds!) I hope that by following their examples in both personal and professional life, I will be able to pay back what they did for me!

Tell us about the friendships you’ve made at Mark Spain Real Estate.

Everyone at Mark Spain Real Estate has been so pleasant to work alongside. Everyone is willing to help and want to see you succeed. Matt Weeks has been a constant encouragement for me. Tim Sears, Associate Director of Sales, has helped me so much and has been so patient with me. The involvement from upper management is also very impressive, seeing John, Cindy and Tom on Team Huddles is always such a treat! 

What are you looking forward to this year?

I’m looking forward to growing my business and learning more about the Tampa Bay area. The market is always changing and there is so much to learn! My goal is to continue making connections and help clients reach their dreams whether that be buying or selling their home. I look forward to meeting new people and making an impact in my community!.
