Tell us about yourself, India! Where were you born, and what do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I was born in Mobile, Alabama where I lived for some time. I was a Navy brat so I moved around to different states, including Florida, Washington, and of course, Georgia!

In my free time, I love reading, exercising, traveling, watching movies, serving with my church, and spending time with friends and family. I also love a lot of quiet time, it allows me to reflect and readjust. 

When and how did you become a part of Mark Spain Real Estate as a Talent Development Specialist?

In April 2021 I obtained my real estate license and started as an agent with KW. I learned quite a bit, and had a few transactions, but realized I wasn’t quite ready for a fully commissioned-based career. I started looking for opportunities that would allow me to still stay in the world of real estate because I love it! My background is in Training and Development, where I have over 12 years of experience. This is something else that I absolutely love! While job searching on LinkedIn I saw the opportunity for the Talent Development Specialist position at Mark Spain Real Estate. After reading it, I thought wow, this is who I am written in black and white! Plus, I can marry two things that I love: Training and Development and Real Estate! So of course, I jumped at the opportunity and here I am!

How long have you been involved in real estate and where? 

April 2023 will make two years since I obtained my license in Georgia. But, I have been in and out of houses for years! I would stop at open houses and any homes that allowed you to go in and tour the home on your own just because I thoroughly enjoyed doing it. So much so, my teenage son enjoys it as well because he was with me a lot of the time. 

Why Mark Spain Real Estate as a Talent Development Specialist?

Not only did Mark Spain Real Estate give me the opportunity to marry two things that I love, but after doing research on the company itself and meeting people like Lexi, Brandi, and Lindsay during my interview process, I knew that this is where I wanted to be. Their energy was great, they had great things to say about the company, and seemed very authentic and happy to be here. I had two offers come in at the same time, but the Talent Development Specialist position at Mark Spain Real Estate is where I want to be!

What have you learned the most from working at Mark Spain Real Estate as a Talent Development Specialist?

I can sometimes overthink and second-guess myself. This leads me to be hesitant, become unsure, and hold back on some of the ideas that I would like to bring to life. I learned very quickly that Mark Spain Real Estate is a “try it” type of culture. It might not work as it should the first time, or at all, but DO IT! It’s okay to make mistakes along the way, just learn from them and keep going. Brandi reminds me of this and constantly pours into me by reminding me of how capable I am, she is the best!

What are your passions in life outside of work?

I am very passionate about helping and serving others. I get so much fulfillment from doing things like serving at church, donating, contributing to those who are in need, and even something as simple as taking my sick family and friends some homemade soup! Small things make such a huge impact on people’s lives and I love making an impact within my family and community. 

I am also passionate about being a mom. Being a mom has been one of the most challenging, yet rewarding things I have ever done in my life. I honestly wouldn’t change it for the world. My son is my everything and I love watching him blossom into an amazing human being!

Who inspires you in life to continue making a difference?

My mother. She basically went from being a stay-at-home mom to a single parent overnight and he didn’t miss a beat. She worked tirelessly, raised four children, and did it all with such class. 

My grandmother. She always reminded me of who I was, and what I was capable of. She pushed me to settle for nothing less than the best.

Tell us about the friendships you’ve made at Mark Spain Real Estate as a Talent Development Specialist.

I have had the opportunity to connect with some great people here at Mark Spain Real Estate! My team members Leah, Donnie, Courtney, and Brandi are amazing and I love how we support each other (both in and outside of work). I have also had the privilege of meeting other great people outside of my position as a Talent Development Specialist that I stay in contact with like Michael and Tawanna, amazing people with brilliant minds!

What are you looking forward to this year as a Talent Development Specialist?

This year I look forward to learning more, growing, and making an impact. I am a self-proclaimed “geek” so I love to learn new things! I have already planned to attend some webinars/training to sharpen my skills in my current role so I can use them to help the company make an impact in any way possible. I hope to bring some great things to the table as well as get as much knowledge as I can from those around me in hopes of developing my current role as a Talent Development Specialist.  

I also look forward to doing more things for myself. This is something I don’t do enough and I don’t think people understand how important it is to take care of yourself (me being one of those people). I plan to be intentional about doing things for myself that make me happy.
