Acworth’s History

The history of Acworth really is not that different from the rest of the histories of the cities of Cobb County. Acworth specifically was once a Cherokee Indian Nation. In 1831 the natives were expelled from the area.

It was in the year 1843 when the town received the name “Acworth”. It was an engineer for the Western and Atlantic Railroad named Joseph L. Gregg who gave the city its name. He ended up naming the city after his hometown in New Hampshire. The city in New Hampshire was named after an English Admiral named Sir Jacob Acworth.
