This school has a vision of delivering a challenging curriculum while giving the students what they need to achieve success.
The academics at Heards Ferry consist of the Curriculum and Standardized Testing. The curriculum conforms to the common core Georgia performance standards and provides the challenge students’ needs to grow. The standardized testing is done in grades three to five each fall and they use the ITBS or Iowa Test of Basic Skills. This test is nationally accepted and provides a measure of the basic knowledge of the students.
Out of the 60 elementary schools in Fulton County, in 2013 Heards Ferry Elementary achieved the following with this test:
- Scored higher than ALL other schools for reading, social studies and language arts at the 3rd-grade level
- Scored higher than 56 of the schools for reading at the 5th-grade level
- Scored higher than 44 other schools for math at the 5th-grade level
- Scored higher than ALL other schools for science at the 5th-grade level
Heards Ferry Students achieve a 91.2 score when it comes to the college and career readiness performance index set by this test, as well.
Along with academics, Heards Ferry Elementary provides many after school activities for students to enjoy. Some of the choices include:

These after school programs help to add enrichment for students participating.
The school also offers a few extracurricular choices, such as the Online Math League, Geography Bee, Technology Competition and Spelling Bee.
Heards Ferry Elementary School is located in Atlanta and serves over 600 students. It’s a part of the Fulton County School District and was given a 9 out of 10 by GreatSchools.org. The community has rated this school as a four-star school, as well.
